hey jakeh we have a 2388 with the cab filter in the little door to the right of the cab.
Last year we got sick of it and changed it we got a small donaldson unit with a pre cleaner and put it under the over hang of the big top keeps it out of the rain works well.
Get about 2-3 days out of it in dusty wheat.

My 2188 has the filter in the right hand door.....the only update that was ever provided for the little piddly a** filter the is on the left hand side of the cab.

Mine get dirty in 30 minutes and I was told by a friend of mine that runs red combines to just forget about it. This wheat harvest, I havn't even looked at...blower fan moves enough air for me and I'm satisfied that the cab is as clean as always.

The cab filters on my 2188's are terrible - they're constantly plugged, and pull through a ton more dust than the 2 1680's they run next to. Is there an upgrade I'm missing, or an aftermarket/DIY fix for these?

Where did you find this "Donaldson" unit? I would like to read up on it, I might want to make the change in my 2188.

All you need to do, is fully enclose the casing around the air filter - the bottom and the back. On the back piece weld a piece of pipe say 2", drill a hole in the grain tank so this will pass through it, mount a donaldson pre-cleaner up above the grain tank (position varies if you have a big top) put a piece of hose between the two, seal up where the air box passes through the grain tank and there you have it - a pre-cleaned cab filter. Coadman A donalson unit is just a pre made air cleaner housing with a pre cleaner on the top. we got our one from Neils parts a division of Worthington Parts it came all inone unit element housing and the precleaner on top.

It has all the mounting brackets all we had to do was drill four small holes in the roof we used self taping screws into the roofand put some silicone under the bracket so no leaks. then run the 2" pipe over the side of the cab down to the inlet on the right hand side and you are away. I will go get the part no if you would like. very small unit only about 6-8" tall and 10-12 long. works well for us.

Looked at a new 6088 combine and the filter is still on the RH side but the bottom of the entire compartment is now closed off so the air must now be drawn from the top near the bin and not the bottom just off the tire. Should greatly extend the filter service interval.
