Was checking the 2188 over yesterday and noticed that the hose that goes between the cylinder head and the wastegate diaphram was gone. Probably eroded away by flying dust. I'm trying to find out whether that would cause the wastegate to release boost early or would it go to max boost? Anyone know? I looked it up in the service manual and came up empty.

Hi
Actually with the hose gone the gate will never open ,so the the turbo won't loose any spin at max operation =more boost pressure.

But without the hose there you will lose boost pressure in the intake.
So will have lower boost pressure because of the leak.

Ok, thanks. Was sort of hoping it was the other way and causing it to lose power. That way hooking it up again would raise boost.

I've thought it was kind of a dog for the last couple years and maybe this was the cause.

I guess I didn't say it right.

Plug the hole in the t fitting in the head that the wastegate connects to.

If the fitting isn't plugged the boost will be allowed to leak off.

Make sure the linkage on the wastegate is still hooked up.

That should help with boost .
