I have a 2188 would like to up grade to a newer combine and am wondering if I am giving up much if any horse power or capacity with a 77 compared to the 2188. I run a 8 row corn head and 30 foot 1020 bean head. The 77's seem to be cheaper than the 88's is one of the reason I am considering it.

2188 has 260hp while 2377 has 255hp. They are pretty much the same combine. In fact, i probably wouldn't even upgrade unless the 21 has high hours, as there are not a whole lot of differences in machine.

77 series had a boost when unloading up to 295 hp. They will run right with a 2188 with those heads on.

The first year 2377s (2005 I think) were still manual fuel pumps. After that, they went to the electronic fuel injection. The electronic system seems to drink more fuel per acre. We have a 2002 2388 and a 2007 2588 that run side by side a lot. The 2588 drinks 10-20% more fuel, day after day.

If it was me, I'd be tempted to buy a 2005 2377, get some hopper extensions for it and turn up the screw on the fuel pump. You get an 88 for the price of a 77.

you mean jd is not the only company to try selling the same size combine in more then one class?

no but it makes more sense to me on doing that on the lower end more than calling a class 6 combine a class 8
