I have a 2001 2388 that is just not putting out enough power. Every time the rotor evens starts to get a little full the engine rpm nose dives way before the rotor does. Talked to Case mechanic and he says that's normal which I think is baloney. My neighbor has a 1688 and is running away from me. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

You need to determine if the engine is lacking power or if the rotor is pulling too hard.

Go out on a road (uphill would be even better). Put the machine in road gear and floor the hydro. The oil will bypass untill the machine picks up speed, but then every available HP will go straight into the hydro and the turbo will hit full boost. If you have an engine problem, you should be able to tell it. Maybe you can do the same thing with the 1688 to compare?

If the engine seems fine, I would look at the Rotor Torque Limiter. When it acts up, the engine falls flat on it's face, even though it is making full HP. It has to do with the action of the rotor belt and the variable pulleys. You will think the engine is a dog, but it's not.....the rotor drive just won't let it tranfer the HP.

Watch for black smoke when you load the engine. A lack of boost pressure (like from the wastegate sticking open) will cause a bunch of black smoke.

Keep us posted on what experiments you run!

I will second the waste gate actuator. I purchased a 99 2388 this year and the first day out I knew something had to be wrong. I also had the same problem on my 2188. You can hook a vacuum Gage to it and check it very easily. My dealer showed me where to hook up and let me use his for the day. Now replacing it is a little more time consuming. Is it just me or is getting the top shield over the motor a real bugger. Good luck!!

We put on new turbo also waste gate was screwed had a hole in diaphram. Nieghbour put 1 on his 2388 also i wonder it must be fairly common problem then. Ours is much better but still not as good as should be our 1688 also runs with it.

It sounds to me like a turbo problem, thats were I would start, along with the waste gate, but sounds like the turbo fins might have been overheated and not giving you the boost you need, because your engine alone will operate the machine without a load on it, so when you put a load on it does it ever recover? or does it fall flat, or does it fluctuate up and down, but in the mean time did you change the fuel filter this year?

Engine seems fine until you have a full load going through the rotor then the rpm nose dive but the rotor doesn't. There are brand new fuel, air and oil filters and also hydraulic filters, so I don't think it's the filter. Thanks!

Just unhook and plug the wastegate line. If it runs better then replace it. Before you put the new one on tighten it up about six turns tighter than stock. This will let you build a little more boost. If you need more I can send you a chip for it if the motor is electronic.....

How do I get one of these chips? How does the chip work? Does it change the injection timing like it was before the new tier 3 crap? Does it change boost? Is this a safe upgrade? I am very interested in this chip. I wish combine computers were like cars. I have a computer set up with the software that I can flash new cpu's in Gm cars, and I can change settings such as timing and etc. I would love any information that you could give me on this chip. Thanks in advanced.

The chips add up to 30% more power. They have a adjustable switch that you can select stock, 15%, or 30% increase. They should reduce your fuel consumption too. They are plug and play. They plug into the motor in about 5-10 Min's. No cutting or splicing. They can be removed also without a trace. I sell them and they are made by TS Performance in KY.

Thanks ,

Quote:BigA, what else do you sell chips for? 8010?

No 8010's as of yet.......Believe me I'm waiting....They are working on a new board that will work on the bigger engines. Like big CATS, 8010, Big STX's, and so on.

Right now the boxes work on most everything 9.0L and smaller.

Thanks,
Andy
