2388 rear axles ?

did they ever make a change to beef up the rear axles on the case-ih combines ? where did they break . Do they still have the axle breaking issue ?

Yes, they made a small attempt at fixing the issue by welding a formed bracket of sorts to the backside of the main axle where the pivot tube in inserted.

Most breakage seems to be at that junction, where the pivot tube is welded into the main axle. It will usually crack out around the tube and fail in short order. However, they are also known to fail without warning by breaking accross the drilled holes in the extentions. The wider the tire, and the more it is offset outwards, the worse the stress on the axle when turning.

besides what doorknob said they also welded a piece of thick stap metal on top of the axle to stiffen it up that junction, on some of our older 2388s we just welded the strap on ourselves ever since then we have never broken an axle.
