Bought a new 2588 last winter. Had put one hour on this fall and the auxillary pump shaft broke.According to Case IH this has never happened before. Then had about 50 hours on it and had the chopper shaft break out where it is welded into the end of the chopper. The closet chopper was in Australia. When our dealer asked Case IH reps if they have been having problems they said of course not. The dealer ended up taking one out of a new combine to keep us going which is what they also did with the auxillary pump. Then last week we had about 200 hours on it and the chopper broke again in the same place. This time our dealer had one on hand. Have heard stories of this happening to other 2588's as well. Was just wondering if anyone else had this happen too. Is Case IH starting to make their parts out of recycled pop cans or what. We have had Case IH combines ever since they started making them and have never had anything like this happen before. Our dealer said this is the same chopper they have been using for quite a while. There was a Case IH service bulletin issued this spring to address the choppers Before they broke. Ask your local dealer about it

The service bulletin you mention, is that the one regarding the chopper belt tension, if so that was done on the combine right away. The belt had the perfect tension on it when both broke so that had nothing to do with it. The problem is manufacturing. You would think after all these years and technological improvements Case IH and all other equipment manufacturers would be getting better at making things yet you hear of more problems of faulty equipment now then ever before.

Sounds familiar on our new 2588 i noticed my head wouldn't go down any faster when i adjusted the speed....

Then the unloading auger started acting really badly....turns out the threaded rod that goes onto the idler on the hydralic drive belt broke...

it broke right at where that threaded rod takes a elbow to go into the idler pully

new 2577 here broke the chopper as well. increased sales and production hurts the product sometimes.
