in the process of getting ready to upgrade combines. I was just wanting to know which of these machines was the best and if anyone knows the pros and cons of each machine. I will be harvesting irrigated and dryland corn, and soybeans in southeast North Carolina. i am will be running a 2208 30" corn head and a 25' flex head.

The guts of those two are pretty much identical.

6088 has a different A-pillar and console controls from the 2588, mostly changes to the field tracker controls. Some people like it, some don't.

6088 also has a different feederhouse face plate like the x010 and x120 machines. If you aren't trading headers, you can replace the feederhouse face plate with one that will pick up the older style heads.

The 6088 also has other changes to the grain tank, unloading system, and options like electronic adjustment of the sieves from the cab.

I have been looking at that decision for about a year. The 2588 only has minor changes from the 2388 I have, but the 6088 appears to be a much heavier built machine. The horsepower will be about the same, but it appears to me that there are about as many improvements going from a 1995 2188 to a 2008 2588 as there are going from the 2588 to a 6088 (I think it is a major improvement).

The biggest downside I see is having to change or adapt heads to the new feeder house, but it appears all the CIH heads are headed this direction for the future.

I do strongly believe the 6088 is a much better built machine, but the cost to upgrade between the two must be right. If the 6088 is priced fairly close to a 2588 then I would go for it.

I currently have an 08 2588 it is a great combine. I was kicking tires on a new 6088. My dealer told me don't buy a 6088 go up to a 7088. I asked why he said horspower is the same on a 6088 as a 2588 but the weight of a 6088 is aprox 5000 lbs more so it will take more power to move that extra 5000 lbs. and I would feel the 6088 is underpowered compared to my 2588.
