The 3208 is a decent motor but is what you call a CAT throw away. Because CAT sells the replacements so cheap that you cannot afford to rebuild it.
Really, the Ford 7.8L was a big improvement on combines over the CAT. It produced better usable torque and used alot less fuel. When Ford quit making them NH started using the 7.5L genesis tractor engine on the combines. In reality the gensis has alot of the same features that Ford first put into the 7.8L before designing the 7.5L as an update from the 401 tractor engine. The 7.8L the 401 and the 7.5L are so similar they have the same bell housing bolt pattern.
The 7.5L uses close to half the fuel that the 7.8L did.
