30 mi west of Red Deer, AB. -7C this morning with the remainder of the 4-5 in. of snow we had yesterday morning. Not alot of harvesting done in the area - most crop was standing - now a flat sloppy mess. Hope the sunny skies and higher temps come through.

How many flights out of the Three Hills International a day? Can I get a direct flight somewhere warm? :D.
-4 here this am
Yes...in a fairly small plane.;)

Actually, there are quite few flights, mainly touch and go as The Prairie Bible Institute has a flight school there.

Proof:
Prairie School of Mission Aviation (PSMA) - Prairie - Christian College Education (Three Hills, Alberta, Canada)

I suppose calling it an International airport might be a little overstated.;)

An hour SE of Edmonton it was just around 0 at midnight. Recording thermometer showed a low of -2 which really means about -4 or -6. Was back above 0 by 7 am. What to do with the latest seeded standing canola now??? There is noticeable color change across the field in the last week and some seeds are changing in the lower pods. Past experience has been to let it stand for another month or 6 weeks and the green will reduce over time. Maybe not to 0 but to get it down to a # 2 would be the goal. What are your experiences out there? TIA.

No frost yet in south central Mb., but all the forecasters seem to be in agreement we're getting smoked tonite. Trying to swath the buckwheat between rains today but it's still about 20% bloom. Best I can hope for is to bury some of the green kernals in the swath. Soys are still about 15% green and I've never dealt with them frozen before. I was planning to swath them anyway because of the rocks and I don't have a flex header... just wondering how big of a nightmare that's about to become?

Green as in green pods, or stems, leaves, and pods? If the pods were all yellow but beans still swollen up inside might make some wrinkled beans, but if they are still green the seeds stay green and don't shrink and look like oblong peas. They will dry out with enough sun and wind but not going to be a pretty sample from those ugly things.

Only frozen beans I have dealt with were in tiny patches in fields that everything else was ripe, so far...

Most of the pods were turning yellow, but lots of green matter in the stalks and leaves. Got down to 0 this morning so hopefully that doesn't affect the beans too badly in the pod. Guess I'm about to find out. Will they stay standing or wilt and fall down?
