Has anyone had any luck with cutting flowers with your 70,8010 this well be our first year with 7010's and flowers. We've never been very happy with our sample with our 23's either but just put up with it, so with these new machines we would like to do a better job. I was looking at the case website tonite and was wondering about buying the cover plates for all the concaves and cover up the first grate. Right now we have small wire concaves in front and large wire in back, I guess old grates? As many of you know that have cut flowers they are a little tricky. We don't like to cut them really dry either, we like to start when the stalk is a little green that gives a cleaner sample. We've had flowers for about 15 years and IH combines for longer than that Just wondering if anyone try covering up the front half plus 1/3 of the rear rotor cage, to keep the trash in?? Not harvesting yet looks like about 2 weeks here in north central SD need a freeze. thanks
p.s.
reall like the 7010 vs 2388 power and capacity and cleaning capacity, except flowers don't know yet. Not to crazy about the electric shift to slow have to stop and wait, and the grain saver is junk, I agree with most of you on that one, these are 08 machines now i see the spout on the auger is different on 7120, that way they will charge us $25,000 more for the new sticker, new stair way up back and new spout on auger. Ooh well

Re: 7010 IN SUNFLOWERS

I haven't cut any flowers but i've heard you need the smooth closed grates to keep in the trash, i would think trying to get the seed out in the concave and let every thing else carry through the grate are would work. Just my theory but like i say i've never cut flowers.

Re: 7010 IN SUNFLOWERS

When we do sunflowers with our johnny's we put a pair of concaves in, on which we have removed all the wires. Then we put some screens over the precleaner so it doesnt fall through that thing and then clean it with the chaffer, wind and sieve.

You dont need alot of threshing to get the grain out of the head, nd we try to be as gentle with the rest of it as we can. We also just sorta cut it right below the heads which could help you too.

Re: 7010 IN SUNFLOWERS

I've cut a fiew confec flowers over the years with a 1680 and pans on a 25ft header comine had an adjustable airfoil chaffer and never had any problems with the sample . Used first concave fine and last two corn , never covered up grates ran concaves at 5 and rotor about 500 rpm can't remember fan spd but it was pretty high blew out light seed only about 1 1/2% dockage and not too mant sticks or leaves but what really pissed me off was that pitch , you just can't get it off including your hands . we got 23's now but no spits this year maybe next.
