I am looking at 8010's and one salesman tells me that you really need a rock trap because it relieves pressure on the feeder chain from the pull of the rotor. The next says that it doesn't matter from his experience. What does everyone think that has ran these combines? T.I.A.

If you have rocks, you need a rock trap, but if you dont you will notice a pleasant increase in capacity if you take it out. Not a big deal, pull the beater shaft out of the gearbox and move the feeder sprocket shaft back and cap off the opening from the feeder shaft. Extend your feeder chain and install the sump cover plate.

I bought an S.T.S. last year. They really are Still Trying Something. haha. Should have put more parts on the walker.
I am hoping the 8010 will do the same quality job of harvesting as the 1680 we had.
I don't have rocks so it sounds like I will get along fine without the rock trap. Thanks for the response.
