Would you be scared of buying a 04 or 05 8010 if it has had all the factory updates done. What should one look for at 1000 sep hours? Is there a reason you can get an 04 or 05 for cheaper than a 2588, or are people just that stuck on a tried and true machine.

Not at all. As long as the original owner and their dealer have serviced it correctly and done the necessary updates it shouldn't be a problem. Normally the tailings processor unit will need rebuilding, the rear tray that lets straw run into the spreaders - the bushes either side will probably need replacing and the piece of pipe underneath where it rocks in and out will probably need building up. The grain elevator drive chains need replacing every season. Other than that probably just normal wear and tear on elevators, bars, in feed castings etc.
