Hey, we are looking to upgrade from our 2366 to an 8230. It doesn’t come with a grain head unfortunately. Want a Draper head for sure. Don’t know what size would work best. And we are debating
Between a Macdon or an AirFLEX from honeybee. Any info would be much appreciated
35' headers are quite common and would be a good match for the 8230 with those crops and yields. 40' would probably work too, but that's quite a big bite for 66 bu/ac canola.
You most likely want a 35' minimum, if you can travel around easy and have decent sized fields without a bunch small areas a 40' that might be the way to go. Completly different conditions from here, but we are generally limited to 35' just because of the field size and travel restrictons, 40 would work better as it would slow the machine down in the field, just have to travel faster with 35' to keep the ol' gal full.
One option you might consider is leasing a head your first year to see what you like, our local dealer will lease a 35' flex draper for around $35 US per hour with 100 hour minimum, almost not worth buying one for that price.
Which (used?) headers are available to you? There have been several iterations of the Honeybee header, including the latest Airflex. MacDon has several models over the years, but anything modern (FD70 or newer) can be considered.
