Noticed today on our 8230 the rethresher is not far from falling off our harvester. The low shaft speed alarm has been sounding on and off a bit, couple times a day then nothing for a day or 2, monitoring the speed of it tho... i have been checking the shafts and bearings, today the alarm was very frequent in a 20min period, so was time to have a better look, also with the seperator on at half rpm, i notice a wobble in the whole rethresher assembly, all covered in dust...
any how found some cracking where it is bolted to the main frame as it enters the rotor area. Gave it a clean and the more we looked the more cracks we found.

Seems as tho the rethresher is fine in regards to bearings and shafts.
Something is making it shake and jump around, much more noticeable at full rpm. So bracing it and welding it is not going to fix the problem.

we first thought that it needs better bracing as the belt pulls on the whole thing with alot of leverage as pulley is up high. In the current state i think bracing will not fix the issue

Is it a common problem?

Maybe the shaker frame is out of wak causing some extra movement??

Our rethrasher started shaking itself and breaking welds around it also. We caught it early enough because I could hear a ticking sound and the paddle inside the rethrasher was hitting on the rethrasher housing. It had shifted to the side a little. We were able to get it pulled back up to where it was supposed to be, add some bracing, and has run fine ever since.

I suppose you have checked to see if there is build-up on the deflector that directs rethrasher material over the grainpan. I have had that plug with material in tough wet conditions, that would stress those welds too. You would notice the slip-clutch if it plugged though.

Welding rods must be getting scarce at the CaseIH factory....

No real chance of that in our harvesting conditions. everything is dead, never had a slip clutch go off. Think the sensor for the shaft speed is faulty or it has the much vibration/shacking its getting incorrect reading.

They said they replace of put an extra flange plate up the top then bolt a new plate on the top of rethresher ( i think using some existing bolts)to spread the load, weld it all up... is that all?
think that's a prevention, not a cure. but if done from new it might go for few 1000hrs

think i would do a bit more than that, put another plate on the inner side similar to the existing one
