what would be the cause of this?.. what damage can I expect to the diffy?

should I be worried?

some large chunks floated to the top and took out the drive seal(according to the JD tech)that is how the issue was found

Have had this happen on smaller tractors. Took axles off changed brake pads and pistons, flushed diff housing , checked axle bearings. Put back together and sent it out. If you are really worried you could disassemble diff but kinda doubt you will find anything. As long as there aren't any many filings in case. Cause? Not to sure.

It could be the facing off the diff lock clutch plates too. Either way axle housings have to come off.
