Yup, went out to combine some sunflowers today, daytime temp about 17 degrees, roaded the combine for over two hours, before I left I unhooked the header onto my trailer, and it gave me a hint of hydraulic noise that started when I lowered the header...the oil was still pretty cold. My dad moved it and had no problems....when we arrived, as soon as I lifted the header back came my very loud hydraulic whine followed by the steering locking up. This continued for and hour maybe close to two hours, noise when I steer, if I raise or lower the header it will "spike" the sound loud, and most of the time locking up the steering to where I had to stop cause it would not turn at all. At on point I lowered the header maybe 6 inches, the steering got loud, locked up, reel stopped and all kinds of herendous noise, and oh ya, the header wouldn't lift or go down or anything. After a few hours and it seemed like the oil warmed up it quit and all was fine for the rest of the night. I'm about fed up with this thing. It was also the first day with our new 590R and I have to say it is very impressive. we had a 480 before and there are quite a few improvements. I think my combine is getting traded after the season, but I'm not sure I will give New Holland another chance. Time will tell. I've very frusterated and this has been very disappointing.

Thats what we seem to be leaning toward. When you say main stack are you talking about the one on the left side of the machine by where you stand on that flip down panel? My mechanic said its mounted up on top of the pump? I'd like to know exactly what to have them bring and replace. One more thing unrelated, on the Case side they are talking about the power issues, and cams/injectors, and not building boost...has anyone experienced anything on the New Hollands? Its the same engine right? Just wondering....thanks for everyones advice once again. I'll keep you posted

the stack I'm talking about is the one on the side panel. everything you describe it affecting comes from that location, so that would be my guess. There is a valve that makes sure oil is always going to someplace -steering I think. and it could be the problem

Traded machines and header, but kept my pans with the drum.......noise came back on my new combine when I switched to sunflowers...the only thing the same was the orbit motor driving the reel. I put a new one on and have ran a week without it.. I went into head2 and turned to mechanical reel and it quit...you could try that. Turns out was not a priority valve I guess....must have been bypassing oil somewhere?????Strange
