9300 tractor clunking

648 Views 4 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  torriem
My 9300 tractor intermittently makes clunking and vibrating noises from under my feet in the cab. It seems to get worse when turning whether the drill is in the ground or not. The clutches and hi low planetary gears were changed before this season. Anyone experience this?

U joint from tranny to front diff. Did our 9400 a few years ago when it exploded. Jd came out with a pip a few years ago to catch the shaft when the u joint lets go. I think there was a lawsuit down in the states about it. Don’t know the whole story.
Edit: I think the shaft wiped out the brake lines and the tractor crashed into someone and killed them.
Yeah I'd be checking the front u joint and shaft condition asap its bad news when that lets go.

I suspect there might have been a fatality while roading. When the U-joint lets go it knocks out the steering valve stack and a lot of other hydraulic components, so you'll suddenly have no steering. maybe no brakes. If this happens on the road you're in serious trouble. The PIP was a casting to contain the shaft when it goes to prevent all that. If you don't have that PIP, talk to you dealer. Even if it costs you money, you should have it. Deere still recommends never exceeding 17th gear. And inspect the u-joints yearly. Which reminds me there's a grease fitting on the slide part of the shaft that is hard to get to with the PIP casting installed that I still need to grease this year.
