We have a 9600 still kicking around on the farm that has a gear box that's leaking quite a bit and running hot. It's the gear box inside of the door on the top step by the cab that has the sight glass. What is the gearbox, and what's the best way to get one, do any jobber companies like shoup/abiline/tractor parts asap make one?

that's the gearbox for your header drive clutch it drives the feeder house and header I would pull it off and check it maybe just a bad bearing or something may just need seal kit. Remember grease that fitting on the clutch every day but no more than 1 or 2 pumps

That drives a lot more than the header. It just about runs the whole combine.

It is your primary gear case. You can probably get a salvage from abeline but a new one would have to come from Deere.

Salvage will be best. Put 75w90 synthetic gear oil in it once you get it repaired. Runs cooler.
