I ~believe~ that the large pump is responsible for sep. pressure. I have always heard it called the "charge pump", and have also heard that if it really thrashes, you're out quite the chunk of change!
Before this happened, did you ever notice your oil level (of your charge pump) (on the dipstick) rising?
