The straw chopper on my 9600 is literally shaking itself apart. I took it off the machine before I started combining and went through it, changed wore knives and such, checked the bearings and repaired the sheet steel. It worked great for the first 200 acres or so and then it began to shake so bad that it was tearing the sheet steel where it mounts. I went back through it and I cant find anything wrong with it. I'm certain that it is out of balance somewhere but I'm not missing any knives on it and from what I know, when you're missing knives it throws them out of balance.

I was curious if anyone here has a direction that I could head in to get it back to functioning correctly?

Did you replace all the knives ? If not too many new ones in one spot can unbalance them. Also mix and matching brands can do it. We did this on a stalk chopper. I would look at the belt drive a vibration could be coming from somewhere else

It is definitely out of balance. Find someone in your area that does mobile high speed balancing. Aside from the hammers there are also weights on the end flanges you may have lost. How about bearing condition? Possible bent rotor?

x2 then you have a machine!! but if you don't want or need the straw chopped great get the old one balanced!

Fairly easy to get shaft balanced if you pull it out. New bearings, and weigh the hammers to match them up, new bushings and hardware, or put hardfaced hammers on if you can as they really last

Sounds like your getting dust in the drum or did they have balancing slugs on the end of the drum

Been down this road before. Do yourself a favor and get a new mav setup and be done. We had our balanced and it was ok for awhile and the the vibration resumed.

Did you make sure all the knives are flipped the same direction before it starts up. Some of the knives will get stuck bent back along the drum and it will vibrate bad if it does not straighten its self out. Over time green stuff and dust gums up things so they do not rotate so freely into the right position.

You need to get that balanced asap or you could literally tear the whole backend out of the machine with the vibrations. Best to find someone to do it right on your machine. Some of those machines the shaft would break apart from the rotor inside then time for a new rotor. Or like some others said get the MAV and you will not believe the difference they are great.
