We bought a 25ft New Holland 973 flex header this summer, it has a Crary Air Reel and stainless floors. We started our winter wheat with it and in standing crop, in the heat of the day, we could fly along at 5mph feeding good, but by 6 we would basically be shut down because the crop just would not flow. The reel was right above the knife and the air reel directed right over the knife but it would just pile up and either plug the header or open the stone trap. Even in soybeans it had some problems with plants not flowing into the auger. We looked into getting a fully-fingered auger for it but at $5000 we were turned off of that idea as we paid less than that for the whole header. Is there any adjustments or tricks to make the crop flow from the cutterbar to the auger easier and more consistently.
Thanks

When we first got our TR98's we used two 30' 973 headers.
We had this type of problem as well and finally went to the 971's on small grains and used the 973's for beans only.
That being said, try running your 973 all the way back buy adjusting the front plate on the feeder. We where able to get them to feed a little better in small grain doing that.
Good luck
