We have just picked up a 1 year old 9760, and in checking it over yesterday I found where there has been some welding on one of the tank supports. Doesn't appear to have any parts added, just a couple of short welds. Is there a weak point we need to watch? We had a 9660 and to my knowledge we had no issue there. Thanks

maybe the STS guys can confirm this, but wasn't there a PIP to beef up the grain tank supports?

I am also thinking that there is a kit you can buy thru parts to strenghten this area.

GRAIN TANK WELDS CRACKING----9650STS and 9750STS Combines

Grain tank welds are cracking causing failures on STS combines.

Welds in some areas were not sufficient.

A new kit has been developed with parts and instructions to repair and reinforce the grain tank. This new kit replaces AH205608. The new kit (AH208662) contains gussets and reinforcement plates to address cracks on the grain tank legs, the charge housing area and cracks inside the grain tank.

Parts:

Order AH208662 kit to repair grain tank.

For a year old 9760sts,there is a fix as fail p.i.p available, we've check all of our machines as they return for inspections, haven't had any 60 or 70 series break, however have had a quite a few 50 series with issues, if you will post or p.m. your serial no. Tom or myself can check your serial no. for open p.i.p.s.

Thank you, adk247. Mine is on the front right support just like the picture shows. Someone did try to repair it I think but is still cracking out.

deerefever, Sorry I did not say but mine is a 50 series. I have a front right support that looks just like the second picture from tom's post. I first noticed it when I was in the grain tank and saw where someone had cut a hole and patched it. I lifted the side panel and that is what I saw. I also heard a strange poping noise when tank was 2/3 or so full when turning around in the field. I don't know if that was the source or not.
