Are you sure the pumps haven't moved and the pulley's are not in alignment? Or are the bearings on the idler bad so it is tilted? Also if the bracket that holds the idler pulley is worn from lack of grease that will cause the pulley to not put pressure on the belt evenly. The book should give you the correct measurement on the threaded idler rod. We have owned three of those machines and never had any trouble with that belt.
pump has not moved. new idler when first belt went (just in case) next belt went ,splitting apart, pieses missing ,had the mechanic check the aliangement , due for the next belt , will double check shop manual for length of the tension rod
