We have been running Massey combines for yrs and are in need of an upgrade on one. Due to the lack of dealerships in the area we are looking at a John Deere. I know nothing about a John Deere and was wondering if there is anything I should be looking for when purchasing one. We are looking at a 04 9860 with around 1000 hrs on it. We mainly grow wht, canola, and barley. thanks.

Re: 9860 DEERE

There are bigger combines out there but if you want to be close to a dearler I haven't heard of much wrong with them.

Re: 9860 DEERE

I know that the 05's with the smaller motors had problems but the 12.5L is a strong motor that has had minimal problems. Is the 04 a bullet rotor?? I'm sure there is some updates after 04 that should have been done. ask the dealer.

Re: 9860 DEERE

Saw a 9860 with the engine out of it at a dealer last week. Mechanic told me number 4 crank journal grabbed, they are fitting a new engine.

Oh ,12 litre engine, bullet rotor, 1300 hours

Hey deerefixer, why do you think a bullet is to aggressive? Isn't that a good thing it will move more product through or not.
