Hello All
I was doing a little On-line research this morning looking for a drum funnel. This is what I found.

Eagle model # 1660 for $47.35 US at Grainger.

Eagle model # 1660 for $126.32 Can. at Acklands Grainger.:mad::rolleyes::confused::(:crying::eek::mad::mad::eek::(:(:(:crying:

The price discrepancy across the border in quite incredible. I ordered a fuel tank for my old Ford farm truck. (Put a tree into the old one while backing up.) Tank built in Canada, sold in the States. Brother hauled it across the line for less than 1/2 price of the cheapest we could find in Canada. Go figure.

I also heard thru the grapevine that the US farmers pay a lot less for Caramba than we do in Canada. Our price last year was $305/8.1 litre jug, which works out to $15.25/ac (for the Fusarium rate). I'd like to know what farmers pay down south of 49.

This is NOT a "PERFECT" example of us/cad, this is a PERFECT example of acklands gouging and screwing their customers. I did a quick online search and found your exact funnel on globalindustrial.ca for $38 cad.
It drives me crazy to look at acklands for anything, for example, I just bought a smith sc772a machine torch, you guys can google this if you want, but miller(smith) suggested retail is $662usd. Grainger(usa) $600usd, Acklands/grainger $1814cad.
I bought it from miller4less.com for $311usd
but that is just one example of Acklands almost charging triple suggested retail. And yes you can go into the store and they will offer deep discounts, sometimes even bringing their price down to suggested retail levels!
Sorry for the rant but Acklands piss me off.

Hello F_armer
Yes, I know that Acklands Grainer's prices are high, but my point wasn't to point out their base price, but the price difference between the 2 companies owned by the same company, but operating in 2 different countries.

Your:
globalindustrial.ca wants $38.95 + 73.53 shipping.:(
globalindustrial.com wants $30.95 + $15.54 shipping.:)

Thanks for another prime example of the price discrepancy!

Here is a good one for you. Bought a set of tire in the states for my truck. $500 each here in the states. A few days later I was at the Ag Expo in Lethbridge. $500 each, Canadian, for the exact same tire. That was $375 US. Would have saved $1000 buying the 8 tires in Canada. It can go both ways.

Hello Lanwickum
Yes it sure can go both ways!
If I bought those tires here, they would cost me $500.00 Can.
If I bought those tires there, they would cost me $633.60 Can.

Yes, but 99% of the time it doesn't.

You missed my point, it seems that when you put "Acklands" in the name they triple the price.
I am agreeing with you, we get gouged, sometimes with price, sometimes with shipping, but if you shop around you can usually find a good deal out there. If you read my reply you'd notice I helped your claim with my example with the torch.
Its just that with Acklands they are the most extreme example of all, and generally we dont get gouged nearly that bad, so in my thinking its not a "perfect" example. But depending how you look at it. My thinking of a perfect example is taking an average of a bunch of items and showing the average $ amount that we pay more for.
I know I'm being too literal in the translation of perfect. Its just when I see someone using Acklands as an example, their price is so ridiculous that its hardly a fair example at all.

Acklands will surprise you how much they will try and rip a guy off. Example from last summer..... I was painting our scraper and wanted some of the Rust-oleum Cat-yellow paint they carried. Called for a price, $120/gallon! Way too much, will look somewhere else. Called the local Bumper to Bumper store, they can get it for $65/gallon, sounds better. But get this, they are an Acklands sub-dealer and ordered from the same store that I got the $120/price from!

Hello F_armer
I guess that I should have tittled it as a "good" example instead of a "perfect" example.
You're spoiling my perfect rant!;)
Don't you know that you're not suppose to try to reason with a ranting, raving lunatic???;)

In most cases a manufacturer will use buying power and market share to justify ripping consumers in certain markets off. The US has 10x the population of Canada, so purchasers from the US likely move more quantity and therefore have significantly better buying power.

The Canadian purchasers are likely paying list price or very close to list price because they hold a much smaller market share.

Like most sites that are .ca versions of .com sites, I would guess that globalindustrial is an American company. Thus their .ca site simply lists prices in CAD, but everything almost certainly ships direct form their US warehouse. The $73.53 shipping is probably UPS gouging customers like they always do with broker fees.

At least their base CAD pricing scheme seems to follow the exchange rate, unlike Acklands Granger.

Amazon is at least powerful enough to negotiate reasonable fees with UPS and other major shippers so that it's really quite economical to buy on Amazon.ca and ship to my door. Since broker fees are pre-negotiated and included in the standard shipping charges (unless you are getting free shipping, yay!) you'll never get hit with delivery charges from UPS.
