I am realitively new to the combine world since we have raised primarily cotton and peanuts for the past 15 years or so. We have a 1640 with a standard rotor and we are considering buying a specialty rotor for it. I have been reading about the differences and I have heard a lot about the AFX rotors. Can someone explain what it is and if I have to replace my entire rotor or if I can buy some sort of upgrade kit for my standard rotor?

You can buy an upgrade kit from several different manufactures to make your standard rotor have an auger front end like an afx. If you want to buy a whole rotor, definately go with an afx over a specialty. They are basically the same rotor just with a different front end. The afx feeds much more evenly. More capacity and fewer chokeups. I put a stewert steel excellarator front end on a specialty rotor in my 1660 and it made a huge difference in soybeans
