Looking at a terragator with an Airspread box, and wondering if there is a way to apply granular herbicides like avadex, rival, or edge with this box. Is there a trick to doing it? like blending and spreading nitrogen at the same time? or will it do strictly granular chemical on its own?

We are talking low rates like 12lbs/acre of granular herbicide typically. I realize the airspread is typically better at higher rates.

What is the main difference between this box and the AirMax? How does the airmax deliver the product to the booms exactly? And how does the airmax do with rates that low?

Very hard to find information on these machines and the boxes, even harder to find people with experience with them in my area.

Thanks for any help!

we had an air max 5 very accurate machine we had a chem box on the rear of that for small amounts of product such as avadex canola grass seed etc

the main ait max is a chain in the bottom like a conveyor it is driven buy hydrlic motors and controlled buy the rate controller it falls into an air stream out to the booms very simple the chem box on the rear is very similar design to a valmar it meters it falls into an air stream also

I don't know much about Airspread. My partner and I have an Airmax Precision with a single "main" bin. This is what spreads you high volume products. 50 lbs/acis bare minimum it will apply. No chance of spreading granular herbicide accurately. Behind the "main" bin is what is called the "granny" bin. Rates from 3lb/ac to 30lb/ac can be achieved.

I've done lots of floating canola seed at 4 or 5 pounds per acre, blended with fertilizer from a fertilizer plant, then blown out at about 250 to 350 pounds per acre with the main tank. Works great!!!! Granular chemical products such as avadex, edge, ect if blended with fertilizer may tend to sift out . An avadex rep told me if avadex is blended with fertilizer and blown out the main tank then it will sift out so the first will have to much and the last wont have enough. One thing I've learned is to make extra double sure the density is correct. A little bit out on the density and the rate will be very far out. I've done rates as low as 20 pounds per acre on the main tank. Not sure how accurate it is at that rate. I'd be concerned with the accuracy with the main tank on anything lower than 50 pounds per acre. I've never worked with the "granny" bin on a terra gator. Just the main tank

Here's a link to an online brochure. It's the newer model of 8104. Updated cab. Otherwise its the same tank as older and newer models

Hi there, I have worked with both air spreader and air max, depends how much u want to spend but if price isn't an option go with air max 1000 with the granny bin, this setup has 2 chains (one for each boom) that drop product into airstream. When u just use granny bin chains don't turn at all, product dumps straight into airstream via metering wheel, u also have the option of changing wheels for different products, (canola, edge, etc) air spreader has a lot more moving parts, with an auger system that takes the product up off the chain and dumps into distrubutor pot up top, this system works fine enuf but there is more delay at the ends when u switch on and off and also more hassle to use granny bin since u almost have to put down some fert as the metering wheel just dumps onto chain as it passes underneath. Sorry for the long post, Good luck

Hey everyone, thanks for the information! Has given me a lot to think about and to start figuring out. I have tracked down a used granular bin for the airspread box, to make it from a twin bin to a four bin. So hopefully I can make a deal on it, and get it installed this winter.

I wish we were able to blend the granular in with the fertilizer but truth be told those are rates a lot higher than we typically go up here, and I am not very confident the augers would keep the product mixed well enough with the fertilizer

I have decided to just go the route of installing a granular bin inside this tank, and that should work just fine!

If anyone has any other suggestions to shop around for used granular bins for the airpsread box that would be great to hear as well, incase this one I have found falls through.

Thanks again or the information!
