We have been applying 28-0-0 through our mid row banders but it is terribly corrosive, always seizing something up, even after we coat the disks with oil, loosen the scrapers and apply graphite to the bolts when we park the unit every spring.... thinking long and hard abt going back to a side band opener. I know it will be a lot more disturbance but hopefully less maintenance too.

Any likes / dislikes for the openers that are available out there?

Had BTT Advantage sideband openers on my old 5710. i had trouble with liquid hose coming off the tubes constantly. i was unplugging tubes constantly also. I had 12 hours just sitting at the end of the field working on them the first year. Don't mean to say anything bad, just seems like that sideband was always trouble for plugging and i dont know why.

Back when I use to run a concord I used 2995 yetters for anhydrous, I had to modify the knife mount just a bit cause the knife was two close to the disc blade that it would tend to freeze up and plug, I had almost a smooth blade so the newer wavy ones would be better, I wanted to put great plains turbo till blades on but then we went to a seed master. For 28% the back swept knife is popular and depending on what you are doing you maybe wouldn't need to have the paralell linkage one. I first used a diff brand like Midwest ag? but they were not parallel link and I would get some smoke plus the main pivot pin would freeze up and they never really took grese from the get go but I had really Good luck overall with the yetters. I was told since I didn't run a closing wheel on them they wouldn't work but I had great results since the drill moved plenty dirt

Hope this helps, at least with this set up there really isn't any moving parts near the 28%

I used the Tillage tools knife for about 9 years and was having trouble with the tubes plugging. Now I have used the Dutch side band for the last 2 years and have not changed one knife due to plugging. They seem to be working great. This ion a Bourgault 3310. The points are easy to replace by a roll pin. I have just over 9000 acres on them. Not sure if I can get another year or not though.

that's good the dutch ones work a little better... how are they for disturbance? We had an 8800 with BTT's about 10 years ago, never remember being down for that long but definitely would plug occasionally. pattison's sold us some poly nipples/inserts to go into the pipe and make the hole smaller so the liquid would shoot out at higher pressure - helped some, but they had to be pried out an replaced every year then.
