I have 20 R series that have half the rasp bars out and nobody wants them back in. Takes less horsepower and you run the rotor between 400 and 450 for corn. All R42 and 52 have the retarder in I don't use retarder in the 6x or 7x. All of them have 4 reverse bars in. These are corn and soybean combines.

So, instead of eight rows of cylinder bars, you have four? correct?? Your four reverse bars are on the discharge end?? Are your cylinder bars the 3/4" wide tooth design?? I have a friend who bought a used R52 that was already setup like this and he's used it two seasons now in corn/beans and seems to get along just fine. I will say however, that I expect the wear life of the bars to be about half over the concave area.....half as much iron to wear....half the life expectancy.

2 reverse bars on discharge end and 2 reverse bars on next row in from discharge.
