Our 1020 Case-IH head 3" cutting system is pretty much wore out. It was a good system but lately we have been looking at other cutter-bar systems and everyone of course says theirs is the best. We will be using it for wheat and soybeans and occasionally dry beans.

What do you use and why?

Have you tried other ones?

Here is what we have narrowed it down to:

1.) SCH cutting system

2.) Crary Kingcut

3.) Herschel-Adam

4.) Crary Air Reel

5.) Original Equipment Manufacture (Case-IH)

Do you think the air reel is worth it (we rarely have short crops-except for dry beans), they have not done an "official" study of bushel per acre savings, just farmer testamonials.

If we were to buy a new header this would be the top three choices:

1.) Harvestmore header with orbit reel

2.) Crary Air Reel and system on OEM header

3.) OEM 1020

Crary if you r going to rebuild it and a Macdon flex draper or a 2062 CNH if you buy a new one get rid of that d**n auger especally in the wheat. That thing will flex nicer than a 1020 also.

I'm pretty sure Young's are using the Herschel-Adam's parts on their Harvestmore and 820 heads and when we've asked John about them he said that they seem to work the best over the widest variety of conditions. They are dealers for SCH and Crary as well but I don't think they sell very many at all. Our 25' Harvestmore has cut about 1,800 acres of tough beans and another hundred or so acres of small grains and I'd say the original cutterbar is still at 40% or so. When I asked John about which sickle he thought was best he said he was selling over 900' of new sickle parts a year and that was before they sold a single Harvestmore so he knows what he's talking about.

Id go with harvestmore too if you didn't want a draper form what ive heard.

Unless you want to get an adapter the new deere heads i believe are just like the 1020's underneath.

Don't get a 2020..

Wait, what? The lack of punctuation is confusing me. I think you basically are saying:
2020 = good
Crary = sucks (do you mean the air reel, or do they actually make a complete header?)
Harvestmore = good
Orbit reel = good
3" sickle = better than 1.5" knives.

Do you happen to have any experience with the SCH sickle drive?

Right?
