The variable speed drive on my 5000 series bourgault air cart (5345 Australian line) is causing me issues. Recently the variable speed drive on the front bin stopped operating. After pulling apart the drive assembly I replaced the four transmission sprag clutches that are on the output shaft assembly (these had all seized up). I then put the drive assembly back together after ensuring the sprag clutches were rotating the correct direction. I then proceeded to plant 150 ha before the same variable speed drive failed and stopped operating. Does anyone know what would be causing this excessive wear on the sprag clutches? The machine is almost 20 years old and hasn’t caused me any issues like this previously. Only thing I did notice when I had the assembly pulled apart was that one of the variable speed drive springs that attach to the chains was slightly damaged (bent).
