Drained the tranny oil in the 1688 this weekend and found a tooth of a straight cut gear, any ideas? It was not making any noise and was shifting good. Did not appear to be any metal contamination in the oil that came out.
Sounds like it was being kind to you by giving you the chance to pull the transmission and fix it before it leaves you stranded in the field.
All the gears in the transmission & differential are straight cut gears.
Our 1688 broke a tooth off the bull gear in the tranny. All we could hear was a little thonk as the gear went around. Same as you, opened the drain and out came the tooth. I forget what it cost to fix.
