Looking at buying a dryer. Single phase yard with gas possibility. Have heard compelling arguments for Brock and GSI however lots of happy farm fan owners around too. What's the best one out there?

We have a old farm fan. Service guy's we had was awesome...when they show up....We're kicking around the idea of a new one and had always just assumed it would be another farm fans. Knowing the time it takes to get a service guy out makes me wonder if GSI could be worse??? But this was just our experience. Good luck !!

How are the farm fans, GSI,, screen type dryers in malt. I am sort of looking at replacing my vertec, even though it has served us well over the past 30 years. Maybe it was the Vertec propaganda but I was always under the impression that screen type dryers way over dried and got the seed too hot it on the heat side wile under drying it on the cool side.

I inquired about an Alvin Blanch a few years ago, but the $200,000 + price tag scared me away.

We were in the same situation you are in. Single phase power and we are propane. Looked at quite a few dryers but ended up with a Super B with the Quantum control and could not be happier. It surprised us and our propane dealer on the amount of corn it can run through for the amount of propane used. Ours is the 375 model and the dealer felt like this would be about max for our power and to run our cooling bins.

If you are in an area where you have to take tough grain every year then its best to set up some sort of system for moving grain. You will get very tired of taking wet grain out of bin(1) into wet bin(2), into dryer(3 but at least its electric), out of dyer(4 electric again), out of dry bin(5) and into storage bin(6). Not sure if you can auger $4 wheat 6 extra times let alone electricity and gas. If you just want to dry a few thousand bushels every 3 years then any old dryer under 20 000 will do it without much of a setup. They take 200 amps so you can do it on a 200 amp service in a pinch.

I had a 2009 farm fan(same factory as gsi) and it was ok in a pinch but not something to dry your whole crop with. We would never buy a tractor with no dealer in the province so it was a boo boo that way. It rarely would run all night without stopping for some silly little reason.

If you are on single phase propane your costs will be way way higher than viterra or richardson not to mention your time and diesel fuel to auger the stuff around.

I think super b is better but more money.

How about a drying bin ?? We have a westeel 12000 bushel bin ( can only put 10000 bushels in because of the stirring augers ) but we are very impressed with it but would suggest to limit the moisture to 18% as after that it takes forever and a lot of propane . But can dry 18% wheat down in three days or less . And if not needed for drying it is a really nice to unload bin .

Great idea for the occasional use dryer people. You must get the air really hot going in? Do you think it would work without the augers to overdry and underdry but average out dry?

Consider the dealer location more than the make probably. My dealer was more than 3 hours away so 1. they are not coming unless they get another job in the area and 2. Its costs about 1500 just to get there. We learned this lesson the hard way with farm fan and lexion. I hope I dont get dumb for a awhile now.

hands down vertec continious duct dryer is the way to go, nice and uniform drying.
I love our dryer. its silent when it runs.
but its not only the dryer that makes it nice, its the way you set up your drying system, wet bin, dry bin and overload system towards bigger bins.
only problem we is we don't have natural gas, drying on propane and single phase is a nightmare, but hey at least we have quality wheat this year over number 3 or feed like most guys in this area.
