Thinking about freshening the interior up on my 7720 . Been looking on ebay and can get aftermarket interior kits out of the states (no headliner or seat) about 30% cheaper than through JD . Just wondering if they are quality or not.
Also thinking , would i be better off just to make the panels i need and upholster them myself ??
Any thoughts ?

I bought a kit for my old 1688 from Shoupparts.com and had good luck with them. i have bought many parts from that site over the years with no complaints. will be buying an interior kit for my 9600 soon as we get a decent harvest again.

Why have they used those foam backed panels in the cabs for so long? It seems that the foam goes flakey and turns to dust which makes the panels (for want of a better word) fall off the interior of the cabs. Can you imagine the uproar if that happened to car interiors?

Have installed 3 Fehr kits and have been very satisfied with them.:)
Because they are bulky, shipping can be expensive. (and now we have the difference in our dollars!)
We picked 4 kits up on our way back from eastern Canada two years ago and got a bit of a tour of their establishment. They are about an hour and half south of Chicago.
Their kits are not boxed or any sewing done until kits are ordered - foam is all precut laying flat on shelves. Was glad to see, as one of my concerns was getting a kit that had been in a box for some time and foam all distorted.

Would upholstering thin board say MDF or similar with carpet be better insulation against heat and noise ? it would last longer than foam glued on .
Also thinking of putting carpet on the panel under the seat would this cause any issues ?
Also going to fit a cup holder and maybe a small box like shelf , beats me why JD didn't fit these extras when they built them.

I am not familiar with your cab, but in some places you might want to use something like the closed cell foam that camping stores sell for under your sleeping bag.
Just saying because in 1982 I did underneath cab floor on a IH 4000 windrower and a few places inside cab and the foam was still in good shape after (82-2013=) 31 years.
Foam was blue in colour and I just fastened it with the yellow 3M brush on contact cement .
I only like carpet under my feet to trap dirt and be able to take it out to clean.

Yep it has near new rubber floor mat in it. , under the seat theres a lift out panel to access returns auger and main power shaft etc. It seems like it was metal top from new , just thought some carpet might be pretty.lmao.

What do you use to remove the oil glue and dried up foam before applying the new kit? Thinking 4 inch grinder with wire brush would be very dirty and hard to get into places. Need to do my 4430.
Its not as bad as you think. Use the grinder for the main areas and a wire brush where it`s tight. Finish cleaning the surface with paint thinner/varisol and you will be good to go.

The carpet will cause major dust issues. I tried a proper carpet door mat as a floor mat in my tractor and the dust was awfull.

You are never going to make a 30+ year old cab particularly quite, there are too many levers and cables entering the cab to get a decent noise and dust seal, which is the main reasons electronic controls were brought in in the first place because it made it easier to seal up the cab. The levers and cable transmit and enormous amount of noise.

Pretty much the exact way I did ours. It is not near as hard as you might think to start with. Also I took the seat out of our 4430 when I did it. It is only 4 bolts and makes it so much easier with the seat out of the way.
