We have an old style Case IH (Ag Leader) yield montior that takes an SRAM card.
We no longer have the ability to have the card read/downloaded.
Can we buy a Ag Leader PF 3000 or PF Advantage and connect it to our current wiring?
We took our monitor to our Case IH dealer after harvest last year to have it "updated" with a newer card system that they told us would work. We are getting ready for harvest (tomorrow 9-1) and went to update our field info on the monitor and it won't work. After several phones calls to our precision specialist at the dealer and him calling Ag Leader we were told the "update" won't work.
The only option is to upgrade to newer monitor.
The precision specialist tells me it will just hook right to our cables. I don't know if I should trust his opinion or not.
Help,
Jeff

why do you no longer have the ability to have the SRAM card read?

what kind of update to the monitor did you have done last year?

We don't own the software to read the data. Our local fertilizer company told us they upgraded their system and no longer can read it.

that's interesting. Sounds like they updated their system hardware and lost SRAM compatibility. I would bet good money that their software is still capable of reading the files.

You might look into finding a older laptop that you can use just for pulling the data off the card and putting it onto a USB stick, and they give your fert company the USB stick. Used laptops with Win98 can be had for very cheap online, and would do everything you need.

Went back into the dealer this morning and she was able to download the card. She does not know what happened last fall but it is working now.
Thanks for your replys

the problem is in the computer not the software. I know Windows xp doesn't support SRAM cards anymore by defualt. there is a workaround in the settings that would allow the computer to read it though. do a google search for "windows xp SRAM card workaround" and you should come up with the solution. I don't know if this would work with vista or windows 7. the file out of that monitor is still a .yld file no matter what it is saved on so that wouldn't matter to the software. this is the same file type used by the later case ih monitors as well up until the pro 600 monitor came out (i'm not sure if any other company is still using a .yld filie format. so compatibility should remain for several years into the future at least.

as far as switching to another monitor, the pf 3000 or pf advantage will indeed just plug right in to your existing wiring. the only thing is if you are not using a trimble/agleader/case ih gps receiver than you might need an adapter cable to hook that up (very minor issue) other than that it is all plug and play.
