Putting new tracks on a MT865C. Currently has Camoplast 36" 4500 series. Looking at either the 4500 or 6500 series in a 36". About 3k difference each side in price between the 30" and 36" track. Have lots of clay/gumbo soil. Seem to like the 36" but haven't run anything else. Mechanic suggested 30" for better lifespan and it gets the midrollers closer to the edges. Will I notice any difference between the 36 vs 30 in wet conditions, pulling etc?

Here not usually wet heavy clay but we have clay hills. Here 36 inch tracks work much better. May be different for your area. Your mechanic if he has been around awhile should know best.

One question you should ask him is if the ballast needs to be changed at all for best performance. Here the recommendation is to add more ballast at the mid weight area for 30 inch tracks over 36 inch tracks. Your area may be different but worth asking. For our area it is to help the 30 inch perform in the hills. The 36 inch bite better for us and that is by far the most popular width for all 2 and 4 track tractors.

Mechanic feels I will get the same amount of float and traction out of a 30" as I do a 36". Recommended staying with a 4500 series for the hours we put on. Price is better but still a bit worried about going narrower. Looking at new tractors at the dealer and they all had 36" tracks. Will be pulling 60ft of airdrill with a 580bus cart behind and 1000bus grain cart in fall.

Agreed Joe. 118" wheelbase at 42000 lbs is almost 2 psi difference in ground pressure between 30 and 36 tracks.

Have you tried pricing tracks at the AGCO dealer? They normally install 3500-series and 5500-series tracks at the factory, and 4500-series isn't offered as factory-installed.

Camso rep said that the 3500 series that I have currently are now equivalent to the 4500 series. Priced from the AGCO dealer and the AGCO tracks were a 4 and 6 series according to the quote.
