Does anyone run a 1682 or 1482 pulltype combine, I am looking at a 1682 as a back up one to my 1680 do they have the same capacity and how many horse do you need to run one? And would it be better on a fwd tractor or a 4wd one?

You will probably be better off with a 4wd. The combine is going to require a good deal of horsepower, not for sure on the amount, and I'm positive the ride would be much better in a 4wd. There's no comparison!

Re: CIH 1682

I have run a 1482 for many years as a backup for our SP combine. When we first got it we tried pulling it with a 4450 JD,big mistake, way underpowered and was a 16,000 pound tractor hitched to a 30,000 pound combine. about scared me to death in hills. talk about the tail waging the dog. after the first year we hooked it to our green Steiger KR1225 4wd That is just about right for pto HP and enough weight to control the combine with a full grain tank. The green KR1225 is the same size chassis as the red 91-92-9350 Case IH Steiger tractors.
If the tractor has enough HP,they(14-1682) have more capacity than the SP model because of the extra HP. A steiger 9150 has a 611 CI L10 Cummins with 280 HP.

we ran a 1682 for 14 years, pulled it with a 7230 Magnum, perfect horsepower for the combine. just upgraded to a 2188, but the capacity of the combine is the same or almost better than a 1680 SP combine.

We ran a 1682 behind a 9230 CaseIH Steiger for many years, and it worked very well. Before that we pulled it with a 7130 Magnum 2wd which was a bit scary in hills. The articulate 4wd was much nicer.

we ran a 1682 behind a 7240 fwa it was like they were made 4 each other. We have some bad hills but never had much 4 problems. Had some relatives that ran a 9230 on a 1682 I ran it 4 a few days and found it to be frustrating not nearly as agile.

We made this to save the cast housing on the gear boxes, so all you have to do is replace the gears. A must for big horse power!

We run two 1682's and a 8010 and a 1480. Two 1682's equal a 8010.
8520 JD on the pulltypes.
We love them, the gear box gears are hard to keep from blowing.
