Hello,

We are having issues of mice getting into our swather cab. I plugged, with steel wool, the hole on the right hand side of the cab behind the seat (usually run my gps cables out during harvest). I also checked where the electric cables come into the fuse panel and everything seems tight.

Anyone have an idea where else to check? It seems like there isn't any other places that they could get in...but they are.

I am at a loss of where else to look. I'd also like to remove the floor mat and wash it and vacuum underneath but it looks like I have to unbolt the seat.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Are you speaking of the right hand side facing forward? Because on the left side(facing forward) there is a round hole by the fuses. It is under and behind the buddy seat behind the removable panel. It has a plastic plug in it from factory but that wouldn't stop a mouse...

Yep, I meant sitting in the seat facing forward. There is a hole almost directly behind the arm rest on the floor. I checked in the area that you suggested but it seems tight.

Steering column, cab posts not plugged at bottom leading to roof area, hydro cable going through floor?

All those buggers need is a bolt hole! The one below was crawling through a 3/8" bolt hole when his hips got caught. There was an aeration sock over the flange and he figured it was easier to crawl through that hole than chew through the tarp, how nice of him.:3:

I'll have to go looking some more.

The way those cabs sit on the frame I wouldn't have thought that there would be too many places for them to get in.

I've been trying to think of ways to identify a where they are going in. I was wondering about using a mosquito fogger to see if I could find the leak.

If you can't tell, I hate mice!

Thanks for the pics SWMan!! That helps us to understand what we are dealing with! I would not have believed it if not for your pictures. It is no wonder they are so hard to stop from getting into everything. I think I have stopped the mice from getting into my shed! Different approach from trying to stop them from getting into each piece of equipment. Still have to keep the trapline going to get an odd one that comes in on the equipment. And bait helps when the equipment is clean going into the shed cause there is not much to eat in there! Good luck everyone!!

We feed our farm cats in the shops and have their nest/beds there also. Pretty much eliminates the mouse problem. Mind you these are good "working" cats and we don't over feed them.

The front corner posts is where I believe the mice were getting into our H series New Hollands. I made and installed mesh screens that fit up inside them. I think they need to be open to equalize pressure. It's amazing mice can climb straight up inside six feet of 1.5" x 1" smooth steel tubing but it's the only way I can see them doing it on these cabs.

Cab posts is exactly where they had been getting in on our massey when we purchased it used. Steel wool in the bottoms of all corners, and a few strategic places up in the roof...not one since, and that's going on 5 years. I can confidently say that all of our equipment is mouse free! And that goes for 80s IH trucks, white, John Deere, and steiger tractors. The best method we have found to finding holes is a trouble light in the cab at night and go out side and look for light coming through, or vice versa. The only way to keep them out, is to find the holes and plug them! It can be a big job, but it is more then worth it!

This is the mess I found when I started tearing apart the cab ...by the time I was done there was literally nothing left in the cab, no floor mat, seat, liners, radio etc. Bleached everything and used pet stain remover and soap to spray and wash all the fabrics.

Bought some aluminum insulation and silconed it behind the seat. The only holes that are in the cab are the throttle cable(in a rubber grommet) and the one for running cables into the cab. There are some small 1/8" holes in the front corners that have rubber plugs. I took them out to let the water drain out when washing the cab. I used some 1.5" and 2" elbows and silconed them into the hole for the cables... Which happens to be in the worst spot (overtop of the cab suspension). Hopefully the cab is sealed up for good.
