Yesterday the airscreen stopped working and alternator light came on. I thought it was a broken fan belt, but the rubber damper between the inner and outer pulley on the end of the crank had parted company

. Could have been nasty Got the part flown from France to North Scotland today not bad service cheers Case.

No damage but a bit of a shock. Have many others had this problem? 1995 registered 1800 hrs.

Not common, have seen it a few tmes though.

UN-common on the cummins. Extremely common on the navistar.

Now you just need to keep an eye on your pto. You may experience issues with the flex plate. Hope not, but there's too much on the other end of the crank that can cause harmonics that damper cant control.

We had a crank pulley come apart on a 2003 2388 last fall. It chucked the belt before it came all the way apart so luckily no other damage. Dealer had it in stock so it must be somewhat of a problem.
