Hi
We have a 2011 5088 with 2050 header. The fore and aft ram on the lefthand side has always crept out. We have taken it off and they say the oil is contaminated with water and scored the ram. The oil at the ram does look creamy but the oil in the reservoir still looks clear.
If there had been water in the ram when it was manufactured is it possible that the contamination is confined to that circuit after 300 hours, not something which is altered much in work.

If the unit has sit awhile pull the drain plug on your resivoir, if you don't get water your probably fine. The left cylinder must be the slave, if that's the case very little oil from there will get into your main system. Just bleed off the contaminated oil.

Does it leak externally? If oil can't get out, Water doesn't get in. Air will also turn oil milky. Also keep In mind that hydraulic transmission fluid absord and emulsify a certain amount of water. The drain test doesn't always tell the whole story. When in doubt suck an oil sample and have it analyzed. They cost around 40 bucks and leave no questions.

I think the contamination was in the ram at manufacture, a new holland header made in Poland. The combine was one year old when we bought it with 50hrs on it, no hydraulic oil has been added by us. Oil is away for testing fingers crossed!
