I have a Hesston 6600 swather with 12 foot header with stub guards. I need to get a set of crop lifters for it. I am cutting field peas. One crop lifter came with it, a Gaterman 4S. They are almost 40 dollars. Is there cheaper alternatives?

Are those guards flush with the tip of the knife section like a White Kwik-cut? If so, you're probably stuck with Gaterman. If the guard has a long tip Dutch are probably the cheapest.

It's best to leave a foot and a half between the divider and the first lifter so the peas can bend a bit more as they are held down by the divider and lifted by the lifter. Space the rest of the lifters a foot apart. Never back up with the lifters on the ground.

Have any of you guys plowed your crop lifters into the ground and absolutely destroyed a bunch of crop lifters? Or am I the only idiot to do so! :(
