There are more experts with CTS combines but I know from experience with several different colors that usually the book setting has the concaves closed too much for high capacity combining in canola. A lot of combines that we have run with the concaves open far wider on canola than what the factory setting is. This is just a guess as you said it was not your machine. If it is not that we would need more info on what the symptoms are.
And depending if the conditions are hot and dry, you might have to install the blanks on the back few rows of the tine seperator. This will reduce shoe overload. On a 36' swath the best I could do was 3.5- 4 mph.
Hope this helps.
