Swathed Aug 22, 0% green, tested 13 at 4pm today. Want to start at noonish tomorrow and keep rolling until first two quarters done, then hopefully get some wheat done on sunday before this weather sucks the life out again.

We have aerated canola that was 14% several years ago to below 10%. Its like playing with fire. After a week we completely turned the whole bin. Within a few weeks it was below 10%. I would not recommend taking it this tough. We only filled the bin half full to get lots of air moving through it.

We checked some canola swathed aug 20 and it was 13.2. I would not pull canola and aerate it myself. Canola dries quite quickly in the field and I would be surprised if after 2 days it isn't dry. Canola packs tighly in a bin which increases aeration duration. In a year like this, save your air bins.

if it was the end of oct it would work but I'm still banking on some nice warm days which would not be good for that. I had some like that a couple of yrs ago it started heat i turned it through a fan on for two weeks and hauled it out dry with no damage a little smell though they took it at bunge no problem

Took off a couple thousand bushels at 12 last year. Lots of air, and it still got suspicious on the pile peak a while later. I would grab wheat at 18 before canola at better than 12.

We have a bunch of small 2000 bu hopper bottom bins with air and stormax cables just for canola like that. It will keep at 12% in those bins with scheduled aeration time, and then can be cooled right off over winter. That canola blends in nicely with the 6% stuff we normally end up with later on in the harvest.

On a good yr it would be a go..but with the high humidity , we are thinking twice on doing it this yr..If the canola gets to dry once..then it would be safer also..ours has not cured yet, its also @ 13%..hoping for Sunday if the sun shines Friday and Sat..

I think bagging canola is safer with high moisture. We had Canola at 12 to 13% moisture stored in a bag until we could get to drying it last winter.

I have put it through a full floor aeration(10,000 bushel bin half full and levelled) with a turnover after three days at 18 many times. We consider 12 a nuisance here , not really tough. I'm talking about a fan that will blow a loose cap off over the hatch. Are you guys serious? 12%?

Canola @ 18%?? Yikes! But I've never harvested in November yet either...:) that might change this year. As the calendar moves ahead, so does the sense of urgency!:(

Well it was 13 yesterday, still was 13 today. Didn't get any rain today, first time in over a week, but still didn't dry down any. Wheat tested 19.3. Forecast is brutal for next week, something is coming off tomorrow and sunday...

I 'm with wetfarmer. Had a neighbor use my 19ft full floor bins few years back 1/2 fill 20+% ( couldn't test ) canola at end of Oct. When he hauled it out at Christmas it was below 14%. Last yr I put 13-14% into a 10,000 bin at end of Oct. Froze it out over winter. Then shut fan off and cycled once a week . Turned on in spring and dried it down. Trick is you need full floor air and lots of fan capacity. Consider yourself lucky if you can combine it at 12%. When you have good aeration I'd rather combine it at 12% than loose money on light 6% canola that we don't get a premium for.
