Just bought a new to me 98 CTSII and was wondering about dropping straw with it. It has the single fan Kirby chaff spreader which to me looks like it will have to go. If I run a twin fan spreader and make a ramp for the straw to slide down would that be something that would be doable? I don't want to drop straw without a chaff spreader. Or does the CTS smash the straw up too badly to bale anyway? Thanks.

That's what I was afraid of. I guess I can chop with this one and drop with the 9600. Any recommendations on how to set the Kamsack covers in wheat and canola? Close everything off in canola? Open everything up in wheat? How much do the tine separators actually thresh? It feels like learning all over again with this machine vs the 9600. Thanks again.

Separators thresh quite a bit in easy to thresh crops like lentils and canola. Leave all the covers open in wheat. In canola you likely will have to use some covers depending on how tough the straw is. Rotor loss except sometimes in canola was always our main loss. When we combined canola at night we never had any rotor covers in. If you get it set right it should have 10-20% more capacity than the 9600 except in canola.

Baling behind CTS should be no problem, unless straw is really dry. Obviously not as nice straw as behind a 9600. Will run circles around a 9600 in cereals.
In canola, keep the chaffer more open than you would on your 9600 and give it enough air. Has less capacity than a 9600 in canola.
