We are exploring adding a rear wheel assist to our 78 F2 with Hydro. What is involved and do I have to find one off of a F series or would one from other series of combines work? Any ballpark ideas on the price tag of doing this. Thanks.
yes any will work with enough work. Key is pipe in axle middle. There are two plugs in hydros - one for forward pressure one for reverse. Lines connect to RWA - then there is a valve that strokes or desrtrokes the pumps on older Gleaner units and some deeres. Later models use a roller hub. Used units are cheaper for Deere we have found. We installed one for about $4500 used took a year to find one. Keep in mind RWA's are wider and only match up with 28.1 -26 or with 23.1-26 reversed.
4500 sounds cheap, the price tag on a new mudhug is just out of reach. How does the setup work? There must be some sort of flow regulation between front/rearwheels, to prevent all power going to one wheel, if it loose traction, when 4wd is engaged.
