The separator clutch lever spring is missing from my F2 (Serial 37868). Can anyone tell me the purpose of that spring, and the probable result of operating the combine without it? I've ordered a replacement, but want to understand the theory and function of the spring......

After replacing the separator clutch lever springs, the plate separator springs and the clutch disc my separator clutch works like a champ. It simply clicks into engagement, and clicks out of engagement! It was so difficult when I bought it the previous owner had pulled the knob off the operating lever, and it took both hands to pull the lever far enough to disengage the clutch.
