On our 9550w the dealer has suggested the use of an oil cooler for the reverser gearbox. We already run the advised synthetic oil and keep belt properly adjusted. Any opinions on the use of a cooler or suggestions appreciated. Smelling the hot gearbox at times is a little nerve racking!

Install the oil cooler, if you smell a hot gear box at times, the cost to replace that gear box vs. the preventative maintenance cost of installing an oil cooler will be much easier to swallow plus it won't hurt matters any to have it on the machine.

DITTO If you dont want to have to repair the reverser often put on a cooler, the reason it smells like its burning cause IT IS and keep the oil changed in it often even with a cooler and that is a loose quote from a long time combine guy.

We put the a cooler on our 9610 and it really helped it run a lot cooler. I think it is a worthwhile investment. It wasn't that hard to install just had to get over the price.
