Never ran Wheat using this machine before and I am looking for some advice the book says the cylinder speed needs to be set at 800-1000, concave clearance is at 5/8-3/4, chaffer opening 3/4, sleve opening 3/8, and the fan choke at 7, my question is would you guys recommend these settings for the "real world" or have you found better settings that have worked better for you, also any advice would be greatly appreciated, I'm also running a newer style Agco 320 grain table that I converted to the old style pump on the side which is currently set for beans and was wondering what changes it needs for wheat. Thanks a lot.

i would even go to 1/8 on concave and 1/8 on seive check for cracking fan start at 7 then close until grain loss monitor comes down or until sample starts to get dirty then open slightly
you probably wont be able to open fan until you throttle down some too much suction on door setting is usually 5-7

IDK if we are weird or what, but we usually zero out the concave and kep the rotor slow enough to keep it from cracking. Like someone once said about open grate concaves and rasp bars: speed is what cracks, not clearance.

What is your N5s serial number? Is your cage sweep intact? running any cage covers?

I think it has enormous tolerance when it comes to settings of sieves etc. I always find the fan is what gives me the best results and would set it at about 5 in wheat and the rotor at about 600 to 700. Keep the straw off the sieves and the fan will clean the sample better. Never seen a close concave crack grain yet. They are nothing like a hammer mill.

If you can slide a pencil in between them there junk, its the heart of machine, set machine by book, concave and bars need to be good shape, reverse bars are boat anchors, throw them away and install regular bars, I posted a sticky tanks to moderators on gleaner board, lots of things can be done to really make them purr, Scott.

OK will do, got another question my reel speed will not slow down its just wide open all the time, I'm running a newer 20ft grain table that I converted over to the old style pump on the head, it appears that I've hooked up all the connections except one that has a female and male end on it, it does not appear to go anywhere just is not long enough to reach the combine, any ideas on were I should start looking for the problem?

If the female and male hydraulic connections are small size then couldn't they be for the reel lift/drop? If they are full size hoses and connections then it sounds like lines left over from the original set-up on the newer head where the hydro power came off of the combine itself instead of the seperate pump kit that you put on the head. Does your N5 have an auto reel speed module? If it does and it's hooked up to the header but the header doesn't have the pick-up disk and sender on the reel then it might be the reason the reel is uncontrollable. Turn off or disconnect it from the module. Too, is your variable flow control valve on your head wired properly so it can be sped up or slowed down from the combine cab?

Kind of wish I could see how you've got this put together. Might not be a bad idea to walk into your nearest Gleaner servicing dealer with a list of issues you could talk over on a one to one basis! These electrical/hydro issues can sometimes get a little confusing especially when you can't see the problem.

Replacing accelator roll's, I throw a piece of plywood of the top of the sieves, with sieves shut, its a dirty job, don't tighten with a air wrench or you will strip them out, beats the **** out of removing them and ruining bearings, if you choose this route mark them with a white pencil marker, so they are in time, Scott.

N5 never had a cage sweep.
N5 most certainly did. The whole N series did.

You are thinking of the overfeed auger, which was on 6s and 7s only.
