Flax yield Vs canola

I'm hearing equal yields this year with equal fert. Sask crop ins shows fax averages 8 bus less last 10 years. What do the flax growers find on average¿

Where in dream land is that and why would you fertilize them equally?
Usually average around 5 bu. less than canola but on 25 lbs. less N as lodging in the flax becomes an issue

Maybe I am living in dream land. Fertilize equally and very similar yield. May have something to do with the drown out on canola this year. Flax seemed to come through better. However I am finding flax responding well to fert, authority and headline. Cheaper to grow and better return than canola. However cost to burn straw is starting to piss me off.
Our canola is quite a bit better maybe 30-50% but it gets more groceries. Too bad with flax this year there is so much straw that we have to burn. Nutrients and organic matter up in flames.
You don't want to grow flax, its terrible. There's the straw thing and seeding next year, stuff wraps. Yields are terrible and the price is so low and inputs so high.

You definitely don't want to grow flax, keep growing canola and wheat.

We did flax this year, wasn't the greatest as you express but at least we are trying things. Canola and Wheat? Like the worst combination for disease in your soils? I personally don't even understand why we grow wheat, it costs so much and is worth so little. We are slowly gaining more oat acres

X3 but I'm actually serious. Ha ha.
X2.....I think?

I grew flax again for the first time since 2001. 20 bushel spread to my canola yield this year where soybeans are yielding very similar. I plan to grow soybeans next year.;)
Judging by the amount of flax I saw this year, there won't be much going in next year. Everyone needed to remind themselves why not to grow it.

I've grown flax the last 2 years again after a long absence of growing it. I remember why I quit. Put the same fertilizer package on as canola and my flax averaged 15. We were very wet here. Over 30" of rain since spring. Now we have to harrow and burn. Time and cost to grow it is adding up.
I grew flax only the past 2 years. Last year I had 61 bpa this year 56 bpa .Put half the N on vs. canola. The local feedlot took the straw, so no burning raking or bunching, so I think I'll grow it again next year. Harvest was more a challenge this year, would only cut a couple hours late in the afternoon.
If the final net dollar would be the same per acre I would grow canola.
Farmers shouldn't look at net dollars. Nope. :D
