In the process of up dating my 1996 Flexi 5000, TBT, DS, 2320, 550 trips, 9 inch with 4 inch rubber, running Farmland sp3 with 6 inch Nickols knock on for openers ( I know pretty out of date openers). Found a 2012 New Holland 2050, TBT, DS, 430 VR tank, 10 inch, 4 inch rubber, with Bourgault 610-4041 paired row openers, with very few acres on it for a very reasonable price, but 350 lb trips. Also 2012 Case 5000 HD, TBT, DS, 10 inch, with 3.5 steel, with Atom Jet side band openers, 550 trips, but a 2009 380 manual rate cart for $40,000 less. I'm in a very arid climate in northern Montana, around 6 inches annual growing season precip. Seeding conditions can get hard, especially in fall, sprayer tracks, combine tracks, ect. Anyone have any experience with the different trip assemblies and these Bourgault and Atom Jet openers. Also steel vs rubber. Rubber are $84 to replace and steel caps are $54, but have been told you have to cut out centers of old packers to weld on new caps. Thanks

I'm over here at at Sunburst and know of one person running the rubber packers, he doesn't like them. When I got a 5000 everyone told me to get the 550 trips, I know of no one with the 350 trips around here. As far as recapping I bought a cap from Cascade Machine Shop in Great Falls, no cutting just a two piece cap, didn"t remove packer from drill just welded them on. It was a lot of work.

Out of a lot of PR openers the BTT 610-4041? (could not find that exact number) is one I would recommend as easy pulling, stays in the ground, gives good separation of seed and fertilizer and wears well. Maybe the fact they are on one drill says they were working. A Bourgault test says they only require 2.1 hp per shank compared to lots of others at 3 - 7 hp per shank.
